cars
for the vehicles in my game i want to design three of them I want one similar in shape to either a dodge charger or a ford mustang, i want to use the dodge because its my favorite car so it would be good to make something that is similar and have it in the game although the ford has been in the film death race so it already has weapons and armor mounted onto it so if i was to use that then i wouldn't have to really design much more of it as everything that i would need will already have been done, but as the dodge hasn't been in anything like that before and it is my favorite i think that i will do that one as it will also allow me the most freedom to do what i like with it without having the thought that there is already something out there that i could just basically copy, the second car that i want to make will be a jeep type car so it will look bigger than the first and have a gun mounted on the back or on the passengers side, as jeeps have been used in the army for years i can take ideas from them as to what the car should look like and where the guns should go, i can also use other similar vehicles such as the warthog from the halo games to give me ideas as to where i can put the weapons and to what the vehicle could look like, and for the final design i want to make a more futuristic style of car so maybe one that looks similar to the wipeout vehicles or the concept art forth the tank that i have found, i may give all the vehicles different properties depending on how much time i have and how easy i find it to make the scripts for one of the vehicles as it should only mean changing a few things around so that they behave differently to each other, i would also have to make sure they are balanced if i try to do that though as it wouldn't be much fun if one car was overpowered or one was underpowered.
Evaluation
for my project i decided to create a driving game that took place in an arena, i wanted it to be a spectator sport, like ancient gladiators so that you were playing one of the characters in this arena but it was using cars instead of actual fighting. when i was laying out my plan for what i was going to do and when i alocated each week to having a specific task, but i ran into a problem when at the end of the first month all my work got deleted and i had to start again this put me very behind schedual so i had to divide my time between writing my blog and doing the work for the game.
when it came to actualy doing the work for the game everything was going to plan i managed to get all my models completed only slightly behind schedual and could start work on putting them into the game and getting the game to work, this was made easier by using some scripts for the driving mechanics that i had got off of the unity3d.com website. but the hardest part was when i had to start creating the AI as there werent many scripts that wre very helpful ion this area and the ones that i did find wouldnt work with my other scripts that i already had workingm, so i had to ask mark for help with the scripting of the AI,. I ran into anouther slight problem aswel when somebody had either saved over or deleted my game although this wasnt a massive set back as i had most of the scripts still and it just meant that i had to spend a day putting everything back together again.
the last week ended up being very hectic although most of my game was complete i still needed the most important part the enemy AI in the end to get it done I had to settle for the enemy following a preset path with the guns acting like turrets instead of them and i had no end or start screens although these are easy to make i shouldnt have left them till the very end as they ended up looking like realy bad. as for the blog i had left it until the end to finish and after writing it out and updating it i found out a couple of dayss later that it had not made any of my changes so my blog ended up being mostly done but with no pictures in it.
if i were to do this project again one of the changes that i would make would be to not use blogger as this is the reason for most of my problems although writing everything down and printing stuff off would have been longer then the typing out of everything it would have been quicker and more efficient than using it because of the amount of problems that i have faced.

Game System
What rules does the game implement? What objects need to be defined, what events need to be raised, and what actions are fired for each event?
It may be
eful to break the objects down into subcategories - player character, 'non-player characters' (e.g. 'monsters'), room objects (walls, doors), scoring/health objects (treasure, fuel pellets, first aid kits etc.), controller objects etc.

presentation
for my project I decided that I would create a game, but at the start i did not know what i wanted my game to be like, so whilst i was thinking i was watching videos on youtube then down the side i saw twisted metal. Remembering how much i used to play them and how good they were i wanted to create my own, so now that i had the game i needed the title which I still need and so the project is called title unknown.
Research.
when doing research for my game the main area that i needed to look at was the cars, so I looked at and played various games that were based around or had cars in them.
Twisted metal
Wipeout/Wipeout97
Star wars Demolition
Halo

MicroMachines
Vigilante8
GTA
demolition derby
I have also looked at films and videos to help.
the main film i watched for the project was death race the remake as this film has cars with guns and armour in it which is what i am going to create.

I also looked at some of the James bond films as the cars in them have hidden guns and armour and originally one of my cars was going to be based off an Aston martin that is in the films.
when it came to designing my vehicles i wanted to base them off of real cars or at least get similar shapes to real cars
one of the cars that i wanted to base my vehicles off of was the dodge charger
this is what the car looks like so far without the texture on or the weapons.
i also wanted to base one off of a land raver similar to what the army use but i wanted it to be bigger so i based it off the ford raptor

i wanted a bigger car so that they were all distinct and different, i also wanted a truck so that i could put a plow onto the front.

i also wanted an older style of car so i created one that was based off old gangster type cars and the American hotrods.
when i was looking for ideas to help me with the arena I looked at the games that i had played but all the levels in them were either tracks or more open looking levels, so i looked at what i liked and what i could use then i thought about other areas i could look at and thought that i wanted it to be in an arena so i looked at the most famous arena in the world the coliseum
this is the Colosseum as it is today i looked at the shape and how it was set out with high walls

and then thought how i could implement that into my game, because i wanted to keep the polys down i made my arena a hexagon instead of an oval and raised the outer walls as well as putting barriers in the middle so the player isnt getting shot at constantly, then remembering the last part of death race where its at night with the flood lights i put towers up around the side to put spotlights on to illuminate the arena.

Scripts and A.I.
for the scripts for the game I have looked on the unity website at their car tutorials for help with how the car should control and behave, and also how the wheels should act so it looks like they are turning properly.
I have already created a firing script so that the guns on the car fire correctly, and i also have a damage script from the last game that I helped to create where it takes a certain amount of hits until the target is destroyed so i can set it to a certain amount and have that as the cars health , i also thought about putting turrets on top of the towers to make it a little harder and as i have the scripts for them to follow the cars around and shoot at them i could use that it just depends how much time i have left at the end, the main area that i have left to do and will need to look up either on forums or instruction videos is the A.I. script so that i can get the enemy to follow the player around and shoot at each other without getting stuck on anything.
Changes and stuff
the changes that i have made to the plan for this game are that original i was thinking about adding a multiplayer into it but as i was put four weeks behind when blogger deleted everything and made me start from the beginning i decided to not bother with the mulitiplayer until i had finished the game then i might add it in i was also going to add hazards into the game such as fire on the floor and spikes on the wall that if the player hit they would have done damage also a character selection screen but i have also decided to drop those until i am finished then i will see what i can fit in with the time i have left, i planned on creating turrets and i still plan on creating those as i have the scripts for them and all i need to do is create the turret it self.
